C&S

Ivan - have you ever played C&S? I've got the 3rd ed. rules that I've had for years and years (in fact, that's how I get the heights & weights for my characters), but I've only ever known one other person who'd ever even heard of it. Looks like it would be a good game. Do you find this valuable?

I ran a campaign for C&S over 20 years ago. A very nasty water troll, with a fabulous treasure that the players missed completely - they found the shiny things, but missed the 50DR of star of iron that I had hidden in plain sight. All of my books are in a box, in my mother's garage in suburban Brisbane, and hence out of reach. It is a really good game, but much too complex for most people to even contemplate. I really liked the magic system - it is the only one that I think iscomparable to AM5, more complex, but just as rich. It's a game I'd like to have another crack at.

In response to your question, no, I've never heard of it ;-)

Loved C&S from the first time I saw it, read play reports in ALARMS & EXCURSIONS, and actually talked with Ed Simbalist.

Could never get anyone to play though.

I have all 4 editions (though 1st is just a PDF that uhhhhh....fell off the back of an internet truck, yeah that's it! :)

I didn't find it much more complex than D&D really, except character creation was a long involved process (still is in C&S: Rebirth). But obviously long involved character creation doesn't bother me. Heck i play Ars magica! :)

I found it to be LESS complex than D&D, as it offered explanations for the how and why of the magic. I loved the complex character greation. I think C&S would benefit from pinching some of Ars Magica's character concepts - all players having a mage, a "companion" type, and some grogs, and playing in a troupe style.

I think I slightly prefer the magic system, and the setting, without a unifying order for all magi. Sounds like at least three of us have an interest in it.

I might go so far as to attempt to get my hands on more of 1st & 2nd edition books, and buy the latest stuff... hmmm...
